Everyone who joins this website is known to be a good writer, but, that doesn't mean the literal definition of a perfect writer. When I personally consider what a good writer is--I don't always look to grammatical strength and length. I look for quality in creativity the most, and of course, the basic understanding of how to make a complete sentence. So, I just want to stress to all that each of us here are writing for the sake of enjoyment--so criticism, while it is not looked down upon, should be done so with extreme care and gentleness.
We aren't here to one up one another, impress one another--that's not what this website is about--it's made, and will be enforced in understanding by myself personally, that we are all here to HAVE FUN AND GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER. So if you have a problem with the way a person writes, then tough s*** for the most part. Unless what they are doing is breaking the rules, or is so poor that they cannot function as a stable roleplayer to follow (for example: one-lining all the time, because I know myself how annoying that can be), then get over it. Perhaps the way I am expressing this is rather blunt, but, it's really not your place to judge a person or their creativity just because you personally don't agree with it. We are all here to openly express, and we should each be entitled to do so just as long as we do it with tact, common sense, and clarity/quality.
If you want to critique one another, do so in PM. While I myself am more than open to a friendly poke here and there about editing, or perhaps a tactful explanation of why my word choice is poor, some others can take that kind of stuff personally if you do not present it with kindness and class. If you cannot filter your words to a gentle demeanor, don't do it where my eyes can see it. I do not want OOC threads to be full of comments about one another's writing skills because depending on the person, and how it is worded like I said, it can lower someone else's self esteem, and even push them from not wanting to continue to join in on the story they were apart of in the first place.
You all are very intelligent and capable people. Use your discression to know how to treat one another with respect and tact when it comes to criticism. And for those of you who cannot take criticism well, make it known you are not open to it. Don't just down another person's throat who has more writing experience than you do just for offering some friendly advice. But, for those of you with experience--just because you have experience doesn't mean it is your job to tell others in the roleplay you have started, or are apart of with others in general, how they should write. So back off if you can't be nice.
Thank you.
