So, we have a wonderful Arts section on the site. And one of the thing a few other staff members and I thought would be a good idea is a writing contest. This would help to enrich the Arts area of the site, and perhaps draw in more guests to join the site. We want to show everyone that not only is Krene for roleplaying, but it is also for regular discussion. As such why we have different boards for different features. So, I would like to announce that I will be the judge for the first writer's contest. The specifications to qualify are below: 1) This will be a short story contest, so you will have to write a minimum of two Microsoft Word pages to qualify. Single spaced.2) Please use good punctuation and grammar. If you are not a very good speller, then I suggest that you use a spell checker.3) Please do not send your stories to the site via an attachment when you submit them. 4) Please, if you use images in your story to convey certain scenes, do not allow the image to tell the entire story and to act only as a guide. 5) You cannot exceed a maximum of 8 Microsoft Word pages.6) Have fun with your stories, be creative, and think out of the box. What we want to see in these contests is people to push themselves creatively. We want you to have fun with what you write, but not only that, to provide excellence in every word that you speak through the eyes of your character. When I say contests, I mean that if this one goes well, we will hold more continuously with different judges each time so that it will give everyone a chance to contribute beautiful works of literary art. Not only will there be more contests, but like any contest, there is the incentive to participate in the first place. And your incentive will be this: (of course it would be without the big paw on it, though this is to ensure nobody takes it without winning the contest x) and, so that only the contest winner has the link to the real one ) What you see here is the avatar of the chosen. That's right, the chosen of all of Krene. You see, the Gods of Krene got together and bestowed some great treasures from their own personal treasure piles. And, they wanted whosoever wins this contest, to be known as: The Chosen of the Gods! (winner's name will appear on the avatar next to the chosen medallion)The winner of the contest will get to keep this avatar for a lifetime. Then, once the next contest comes around, a new treasure will mysteriously arrive in either the form of an avatar, or a signature, OR EVEN A FULL BANNER that will depict the gloriousness of said winner. They will all be unique to each contest. Not only will you receive such an avatar, but the winner will also have their story featured in the literary arts section of the site! THE TOPIC OF THE CONTEST: A MUST TO PAY ATTENTION TO!- You must incorporate at least ONE of the Gods of Krene into your story as a semi-main part of the story (check out the lore for more info on the Gods)
- This is a style of short story surrounding heroes, so your character cannot be an antagonist.
- Your character in some way or another must embark on a perilous journey that changes them for the better.
Should you decide to enter the contest, submissions must be made by: June 28, 2013 Announcements of the winner will be made that night. All submissions must be made by PM to Reka entitled "Contest Entry: Chosen" following all the credentials for acceptance listed above.
GOOD LUCK!

Wait what do you mean not an antagonist? By definition the main character is a protagonist regardless of moral alignment...

Wait what do you mean not an antagonist? By definition the main character is a protagonist regardless of moral alignment... No evil characters. And technically a main character can be defined as either. Sent from my SCH-R950 using proboards

Definition: The protagonist is the main character in a story, novel, drama, or other literary work, the character that the reader or audience empathizes with. The antagonist opposes the protagonist. In the most archetypical narratives, this boils down to bad guy vs. good guy: Luke Skywalker versus Darth Vadar in the first Star Wars movie, for instance. In complex works of literature, it may not be as obvious. Becky Sharpe is one of the main protagonists in Vanity Fair, but she's extremely flawed. By the end of the book, she's almost unlikable. In this way she's a very good example of another truth: the well-written protagonists are round characters. They should be the most interesting, complex characters in your book or story. Becky Sharpe is by far more interesting than Vanity Fair's extremely good Amelia, and for this reason, the story's primary center of gravity remains Becky Sharpe. Source-http://fictionwriting.about.com/od/glossary/g/protagonist.htm A protagonist can be a bad guy. Definition: The antagonist in a work of fiction is the character who opposes the hero, or protagonist. The antagonist, when there is one, provides the story's conflict. In Shakespeare's Othello, Iago engineers Othello's downfall by manipulating his tendency toward jealousy and suspicion. The antagonist is not always so clear, however. In Wuthering Heights, for instance, is Heathcliff an antagonist or a protagonist? Does his role change during the novel? Source- fictionwriting.about.com/od/glossary/g/antagonist.htmAn Antagonist can be a good guy. For example, in How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Theodor S. Geisel (Doctor Seuss), the Grinch is the protagonist, despite showing the characteristics of a villain throughout much of the story. Were a movie to be bad focused around, say, the Joker, then the Joker would be the protagonist and Batman, or others who appose him, would be antagonists, despite the fact that Batman is not a villain. He may, at times, be an anti-hero, but he is not a villain. The Joker, however, is undoubtedly a villain, and has committed a plethora of atrocious crimes. Still, he would be the protagonist. (Sorry, started out writing a tiny thing but I get carried away when I do stuff like this. I enjoy writing in this manner. I should do it more often. Unfortunately, this is the Internet, and rarely does one get to argue a point in a manner that does not involve bad grammar, homophobic slurs, incorrect spelling, and caps lock.)

-_- you both know you knew what I meant. In the Reka dictionary an antagonist is a bad guy, i.e. evil character.

the main character could also be both the protagonist and the antagonist, such as when the character is experiencing internal turmoil. "You're your own worst enemy" you know, fun fact But I know what Rek means, we need to have a main character who has at least a small piece of goodness in them, which probably has to grow through the course of the story.

Ah, I know, I just really wanted to do some random internet definition finding. I'm not a normal person. On a completely unrelated note, what in the world does the critique feature do and why have I not noticed it until now? When I click on it, absolutely nothing occurs.

EVERYONE!
Due to some extremely ambitious writers, the maximum amount of pages you can write are 8 Microsoft Word pages. If you exceed this amount, I will not read it. The rules for each contest will vary between each judge so it won't always stay this way.
