Dueling Rps
What is it??? Dueling rping is just what it sounds like, two characters face off in a battle, with two different writers controlling each character. A dueling rp sounds much simpler and easier to do than a regular rp, shorter posts, smaller character cards, less people, ect. For a Dual to be done well however, each post must be though over thoroughly, taking into account every detail of the surroundings and the characters fighting. Here is a set of basic rules that have been added onto dialing rping in addition to normal forum rules.
1. Statistics: Probably the biggest change from regular rping, the element of statistics was deemed necessary to put into Dueling rps to provide a basis for decisions in the fight. The three statistics we have in our rps are strength, Intellect, and dexterity. each stat is plotted on a scale of 1-10, with each starting at 5 without alteration. The character can then put 4 bonus points wherever they choose. For example, a assassin character might finish with Strength 4, Intellect 6, and dexterity 9. (notice you may also subtract points from other places and put them in other stats.) So if this character where to go up against a very strong fighter, he would have pretty much no chance of blocking any of his opponents strikes, instead choosing to dodge. One must also keep in mind however that a low strength also means a character will tire faster, so our assassin character would become much less effective at dodging as he became more tired, which would happen much faster than a very strong warrior.
2. Fair play: In order for a Dueling rp to be successful both writers must keep in mind the limitations of their character, and have to recognized they are not invincible. A very powerful character may be fun to write for you, but if you go up against someone who is playing their character much more realistically it isn't much fun for them. In a Dualing rp the winner should be decided by whoever wins 'tactically' post by post. When you go into a dueling rp you have to recognize you may end up the loser. Of course it is also very important to know you aren't doing it to win, but because its fun!
3. Details: In a Dueling rp it is ESSENTIAL to be able to adequately describe your characters actions so there is no miscommunication as to where or how you character is. Vagueness can lead to misconceptions, which can sometimes be construed as misinterpretation. So it is equally important for a rper to make sure they know what a post is saying before they make a response. This also included both rpers should agree on the setting and nearby terrain of the duel before it starts so there is no miscommunication there.
4. Character card: Dueling rps have a different kind of character card than regular rps focusing more on the combat style and statistics of the character rather than the backstory (backstory can be added but it is entirely optional). Here is the Dueling character card template
Name: Race: World: (ex: ES, Krene, DA) Age: Height: Weight:
Attributes Strength: Intellect: Agility:
Gear: Combat Style: (add any special tactics/general attack preference here) *Personality: *Background:
*optional category

added age to the character card as a required field. ;)Age would be important in determining the physical fitness and experience of a character.

Do you have a level system that people can use as a guide when making characters in order to pick points? I think for new members that would be beneficial especially those who want to try but aren't familiar with fighting rp's.

do you mean like what level of strength a 7 would be? That would make sense to put in, although when fighting you would mostly just compare the two characters stats to each other to determine who comes out better, and how much better.

Well, lets say you get a member who has no idea what the points mean whatsoever. You should have a level system that has a total of points you are allowed to have in which will take away the player's ability to become overpowered, and to make things more realistic. Beyond that, you can use the point system as you said for comparison, as well as a guideline to help the new players who don't have much of a gaming sense to become acclimated.

Point limitation is in rule number 1, each character starts with a base of 5, with 4 extra points to spend. They can take points off of categories to put in others, but there is a point limit
