This is to everyone, of course, otherwise it wouldn't be an announcement.
I understand, and are extremely aware of the fact that roleplays have slowed down on the site. This is mostly due to the fact that a lot of the people on here who besides myself have come to a lack of a lesser frequent posting are caught up in real life. I contribute to that, so there is nothing to hold against it. I have been thinking about this, and some other worries about the frequent posting lack from other staff members, and personally I see no problem.
A long time ago, I created this site for the purpose of it being a safe haven. A place where we can come to and write, relax, and enjoy ourselves. I have been thinking about the impatience of those who are growing testy from waiting on posts to be made by those of us who get busy in real life, which to say unfortunately, is more important than being focused on any website as a whole. Please, do not take what I have stated the wrong way. What I mean by this is that, something I am sure everyone here can understand, is that we all get caught up in a world beyond Krene. You know, the one where we live and breathe, and to me as well as something I am hope should be the same concern for the rest of you; I'd rather be caught up in my personal life than be fully dedicated to the computer. And with that in perspective, this is why I do not see the lack of posting as a problem.
However, on the case of the worries that are pressed by the staff members of our site going downhill to members inactivity, I can understand the concerns as well. With this in mind, as well as the perspective I have from the fact that my own personal life is taking hold of a greater percentage of my attention at the moment, I have come up with a solution that I feel will continue to create success for our community.
There are many reasons as to why a person could have a lack of posting, and whatever the reason may be, all are justified. For a site that is dedicated to creative writing as a whole, and as an experienced writer myself even if not one of the best, I know that writing is best when it is not forced. For that reason, those who are having a lack of posting due to uninterest should not be punished, but take the necessary measures to either go on a less active schedule and remain around the site at least once a week, or every few days like myself, or perhaps do what is needed to withdraw from stories in order to not sacrifice the creativity and urgency of others to want to continue drawing out the roleplays they are apart of. So, please keep that in mind. These are basic roleplay etiquette, and it is something that is asked of you from the basic guidelines on the homepage.
As for those of us who only want to be active on the site once a week, there is nothing wrong with that either, and in regards to an active poster that still counts. For those of you who are looking to create stories with lets say players in a story that will post on a daily basis, do what you need to in order to create a story with players who can meet such a consistency. When you create a story, a new one or have one already in the works, all of these things should be considered by the controller of said story to begin with. Group stories need group members who are willing to work as a team to create a high maintenance daily poster, or a low maintenance once a week story poster that still meets the activity requirements. Nothing is wrong with posting once a week, that shows you have a balance between dedication to a creative writing website even if its just for an hour once a week so long as you can equally contribute to the commitments you have made, or more. And the same thing goes for day to day posters.
As for those who are day to day posters on a regular longterm schedule, and suddenly go to a once a week activity such as myself-- be courteous and let all of the others you collaborate with know of whats going on in your social life. Intimate details are not necessary, just a few sentences of briefly whats going on to clue others in on your whereabouts. Its disrespectful and rude to those you have made commitments to when longterm absences are made, and not even a brief disclaimer as to why it is happening, and leaving others wondering on a fine thread of where and when you are and if active members can still salvage a story is just down right wrong. I know that I have not been a good example lately seeing as I have gone down to once a week posting, but I have taken the necessary measures to clue in at least one or more members of my whereabouts so that information can be passed along as to why I have been less active. This is why we have shoutbox people. This is why we have OOC's. This is why we have PM's and a General Discussion Board. Do something. Just please if you're going to go MIA, that's cool, but let us know because if we don't hear from you in say 2 months or more us as staff will think you have dropped off the planet and will consider your account. And then members will write you out of stories, or great stories that are in effect will be salvaged because you played such a major role. More or less, don't make commitments you can't handle. Discuss things. Be open to communication and criticism.
But back on the effect of real life activity in regards to creative writing...
As I said before, this site is a safe haven for all of us, as well as is based off of creative writing. Creative writing in of itself is literally what it says--creative expression in writing form. Due to this, most writers tend to go through periods of inactivity, or lesser activity. However, as a member of this site, when you agreed to registering and becoming apart of stories on this site--you agreed to the basic guidelines as well as rules that are expected of you regarding post activity. In such a case, it is your responsibility to do what is necessary even if it means only being able to post once a week, or every few days, or even once a month and take measures to reflect such a status from you in whatever stories are okay with whatever level of activity you are willing to commit to. If you cannot make commitments, then I suggest that you try and get your focus back in gear in whatever is most important in your life.
One thing I have always strived to make others know when I am in a story with them is that real life is what matters most. And, that still stands today. With this in mind, and the idea that roleplay etiquette should be followed, I want to address lastly that stories above all should be fun. Because, what's the point of a creative writing story that you feel forced to contribute to?
So, in the effort to all of what is expressed I am going to do the following for myself and for the site.
1) I will be making a thread in the general discussion board that will allow members who do not have a lot of time to run to each and every OOC to include whats going on in there lives as a locked announcement to drop notifications off for each of us to clue into. Here, you can express your concerns to let everyone know you are still around and plan to be in stories, etc, and whats going on with you. For me, at this moment in my life with the way things are headed for school, this tool will become very useful. However, this topic will not be for miscellaneous story conversation. It will only be to drop notifications off for absences because that is what OOC threads are for. To discuss arrangements of stories. This will be for the rper who DOES NOT HAVE TIME to run to each thread, but has say a few seconds to log in between classes and post an update of there whereabouts so no worries are caused. With this thread, it will provide for opportunity of those on the site who are active posters to see that notification, and if it's done so repetitively, to make independent arrangements on the writer's behalf while they are gone to progress the story in their absence. I will provide an example of what a notification should look like:
"Hey guys,
Sorry for not being around, classes are really getting to take a lot of my time right now so that is why I have not been on to post. I know I am holding up stories, but unfortunately for the next few weeks and until after finals I will not be able to contribute much right now. Occasionally, I may be able to get on for an hour and advance my character, but in my absence I will give rights to moving my character along to so and so in order to keep me apart of the story so that when I return I am not long gone and behind.
Thanks so much guys see you soon!"
This above is what the thread will before. This example shows what needs to be said, and you can really write a notification any way you'd like. For other examples, you could include how more information about your schedule and perhaps tag members of your stories and include story titles/character names in said stories to specific members to get them to pay attention, and then maybe address how many times a week or month you are able to be apart of the and so forth. With this new thread idea, I feel that this will be able to create a more organized approach to those of us who really, really do enjoy being apart of stories but have such an erratic schedule on occasion to not have to necessarily back out of all stories altogether. Because it sucks leaving a story when you have to focus on school or work or real life stuff when you put so much dedication to it to begin with. And not only that, those of us who are fully aware of how many times I have said this is a leisure site should not feel like they have to leave the site altogether for any purpose just because they have a life beyond the screen. Because that's wrong. And with being a small community as we are slow to grow, I feel like the fact that we could make use of something like this could be useful. With the advantage of a small community, we can all grow together and work together in order to keep all stories alive, even the ones lets say that go inactive for over a month, and not have to toss them just because life takes a important role as it always should. Thank you for reading, and if you have gotten to the end of this announcement whether you are staff member or a regular member, to show you have read it, please respond to this thread with the by saying the words googlyfoot. It's so I know that everything here has been read, and not skimmed, and that way I know what I am trying to put forth the effort in doing is going to actually make a difference and not be ignored. Beyond that, those of you who have read this not only put the words googlyfoot, please tag others in posts to pass this important announcement on to everyone.
